Vogrie: Blinkbonny Circuit

Starting and ending at Vogrie Country Park, during this walk you will encounter spectacular views north to Edinburgh and south to the Moorfoot hills.

Distance: 8.3 km
Approximate time: 02:30 (hrs:mins)
Height gain: 0 metres
OS Map: Explorer 345 Lammermuir Hills

To begin the Vogrie to Blinkbonny circuit, start at Vogrie Country Park car park. Take the path past the West Lodge Gate House, at the park entrance, to Newlandrig just west of Vogrie. Follow the green north-pointing finger post at Newlandrig which takes you along a right of way, then uphill to a minor road junction. Turn right and follow the road for 0.5km until a bend in the road at Southside farm. Continue up the hill for a further 0.5km and go through a metal gate on the left that leads into woodland. This path continues through the woods until it gives way to spectacular open views north to Edinburgh and south to the Moorfoot Hills. Known as the Camp Wood, this area harbours archaeological relics from Roman times.

Continue along the path for a further 1km until a road junction. Turn left down the road. In the fields on the left and right were large open cast coal workings operational until the end of last century. At the time considered a blight on the landscape, the land was successfully restored to agriculture.

Continue downhill until the left turn at Moss Cottage leading to Blinkbonny Farm. About 0.5km after the farm, turn right retracing your steps from the earlier part of the journey and back to Vogrie Country Park. This route is also suitable for horse riders.
