Mount Lothian

This walking route takes your around the Gladhouse Reservoir in Midlothian past farms, the Rosebery Reservoir and the Mount Lothian junction.

Begin the Mount Lothian walk at one of the car parks on the North side of Gladhouse Reservoir in Midlothian near Edinburgh. Turn left and proceed along the road which tracks the edge of the water. On reaching the first junction turn left following the road. After approximately 1.5 km turn right through a metal gate onto a path that follows the edge of a woodland plantation. Continue along this track for about 3km until reaching a road junction at Cockmuir. Turn right and proceed along the road to the Mount Lothian junction. Turn right at this junction until the first bend in the road then turn left along the road to Fullerton Farm.

On reaching the farm, go through the farmyard and pick up the track going east. Along the track are several cattle grids and hunt gates. After the third cattle grid, turn right up a track through woodland and continue past the sawmill until the T-junction. Turn right along the road and then take the first left which heads towards Rosebery reservoir eventually reaching Yorkston Farm. Go past the farm and turn right again along the road towards Gladhouse Reservoir.

After 2.5 km take a right turn at the corner of the reservoir and the car park will be in view around the next bend. This route is also suitable for horse riders.

Access

Start and finish at the Car Park on the north side of Gladhouse reservoir. There are no buses.
