The castle stands in thirty acres of tranquil grounds enjoying a magnificent view across the Firth of Forth. It was built about 1590 for Sir Archibald Napier and extended in the 1820s. The beautifully preserved interiors were richly decorated and furnished between 1902-1926, in Edwardian taste, by its last owners, Mr and Mrs W.R.Reid, who also simplified the Victorian gardens, designed during the 1840s by the architect W.H.Playfair.
With its calm, tranquil atmosphere, and stunning views across the Firth of Forth, Lauriston is the perfect place to escape from the bustle of the city centre. Enjoy a woodland walk, a visit to our award-winning Japanese garden, or step back in time and experience what life was like in an Edinburgh middle-class home at the beginning of the 20th century.
